On October 31, 2008 at 9:15 A.M. members of the Elk Grove Village Police Department responded to a home in the 1500 block of White Trail in reference to a check for well-being. The resident, a 70 year-old female identified as Marilyn M. Wood, had not reported to work that morning and her co-workers became concerned for her well-being. Elk Grove Village Police officers arrived at the home and finding the home unsecured, made entry. The officers found the resident/victim, Marilyn Wood, in the basement of the home, bound and gagged, the apparent victim of a murder. Marilyn Wood suffered multiple injuries to the head and body from an apparent beating.

 
During the morning of October 31, 2008 the victim's place of employment in Schaumburg, IL received a fax from an insurance company in Arlington Heights, IL. The fax stated that the victim would not be in to work due to being out of town. The person positively identified as sending the fax was the victim's son, Jonathon Wood.
 

During the evening of October 31, 2008 Jonathon Wood was seen driving the victim's car in the vicinity of the victim's house. When Elk Grove Village Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle it fled at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle to Glencoe, IL where the pursuit terminated and Jonathon Wood was taken into custody. Arrested and charged with two counts of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding and Unlawful Violation of an Order of Protection was:

The Major Case Assistance Team and the Cook County State's Attorney's office assisted the Elk Grove Village Police Department in the investigation of this incident. On November 4, 2008 Jonathon Wood was taken to the 3 rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows for purposes of a bond hearing. He is currently being held on a $3,000,000 (10%) bond and has been ordered to appear in court on November 5, 2008 at 9:00 AM in courtroom 108.
