Easy access to fire hydrants located on Village parkways is critical in the event of a fire emergency. But sometimes, access to many fire hydrants is blocked or obscured by landscaping, by trash, and more commonly, by snow.

The Fire Department needs your help to ensure that firefighters have ready access to all fire hydrants. If a fire hydrant near your home becomes blocked or obscured for any reason, but especially due to snow accumulation, please take action to clear the snow or debris away.

Children are especially keen on the importance of this effort. The Fire Department conducts its annual Adopt-A-Hydrant program in all elementary schools in late fall. Students are given sign-up forms and asked to commit to shoveling out their "adopted" fire hydrant all winter long. Participants receive our thanks and special certificates in the spring.
